Les Figures de Mosaïque: Apollon & Daphné
CHF 189
Apollon & Daphné is a silk scarf in 100% pure silk (14 momme), approx. 33 × 147 cm, with hand-rolled edges. The motif is based on a Roman mosaic from the 3rd century AD from ancient Daphne (today Harbiye); the scarf is made in Antakya, Türkiye. It is delivered in the Atelier Anatole archive box with the «Scholar’s Index» provenance card, a separate curator’s note and a microfibre suede pouch.
About the motif
The mosaic was discovered in the House of Menander in ancient Daphne. It shows the moment of metamorphosis: fleeing the god of light Apollo, the water nymph Daphne turns into a laurel tree as her body already merges with sprouting leaves and branches. The scene goes back to Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
